Daniel Erickson will join the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship from the next round at Queensland Raceway. The New South Welshman will reunite with his former team, Borland Racing Developments, driving the Bosch Batteries Spectrum 012. Daniel will take over the seat which became available when a secondary sponsor withdrew from Jesse Fenech, creating a funding shortfall which prevented him from finishing the season.
“We’re very disappointed for Jesse, who is leading the Rookie of the Year points and has been doing a terrific job,” said BRD’s Paul Zsidy. “In saying that, we have to accept that without the funding to continue, we had to ensure we were able to deliver to our commercial agreements and we’re delighted to welcome Daniel back to our team.”
Erickson is looking forward to getting back onto the racetrack, after many months on the sidelines. “This has all come around very quickly,” he said. “I can’t wait to get into the Bosch Batteries Spectrum with the BRD team.” Daniel acknowledged the difficult task that faces him, commenting “I haven’t driven an Australian Formula Ford since late 2008 and the competition in this year’s championship looks as strong as ever. I think QR will be tough, as it will take a bit for me to get used to a car with no downforce or slicks again; but we’ll dust off the cobwebs and give it our best for Bosch Batteries! I’m sure it won’t take long for us to have the Spectrum at the front.”
