Daniel Erickson, 2008 CAMS Rising Star and Australian Formula Ford Rookie of the Year, has confirmed that he will compete in the 2009 UK Formula Ford Championship. Daniel has been selected for the AMSF International Rising Star program and will drive an Australian designed and built Spectrum chassis with Kevin Mills Racing.“It’s fantastic to be able to confirm my 2009 plans and to take the next step in my career,” said Erickson. “When I tested the Spectrum with Kevin late last year, I knew that was what I wanted to do. There has been a lot of hard work by everyone since then to put the deal together. I couldn’t have done this without the support of the AMSF, my family, Kevin Mills Racing and Borland Racing Developments,” he added.
In preparation for the UK season, Kevin Mills travelled to Australia in January for an intensive ten day, six test program taking in Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek and Winton Raceway. “That was quite an experience,” commented Kevin. “It was minus eight when I left London and we haven’t had a day under 36 degrees since I arrived. It was 46 at Winton on the last day!” he said. With regard to the testing, Kevin stated “Everything went very well. We were able to try a range of set up changes and configurations. Daniel drove extremely well and we learned a lot which we can take back with us.”
Daniel will be joined at KMR by Alex Jones, who drove with the team in the 2008 Scholarship Class. With Alex’s circuit knowledge and Daniel’s experience with the Spectrum chassis, it looks set to be a strong year for the KMR Spectrum team.
