Geroge Miedecke secures Rookie of the year in UARA Stars Series

Marcos Ambrose Motorsport made a twin-Australian attack on the latest round of the UARA Stars Series at Newport Speedway on the weekend, with JELD-WEN backed racer George Miedecke consolidating second in the title chase, while first time oval track racer Marcus Zukanovic impressed on debut.

Miedecke started the race from 12th position, but with his car dialled in for long green flag runs, he charged his way through to fourth after 150 laps on the tight high-banked quarter mile long oval.

The result earned Miedecke the Rookie of the Race Award, as well as the Hard Charger award.

Zukanovic meanwhile impressed the Marcos Ambrose Motorsport crew with his speedy adaption to left turn only racing, finishing in 13th after qualifying 16th, only a tenth of a second behind Miedecke.

"It was a decent night, a really good turn around from the past couple of outings for the team," Miedecke said.

"We didn't quite have the speed in qualifying, but the car was definitely one of the best out there in race trim.

"I just played the waiting game in the race and picked the cars off one-by-one.

"Unfortunately on the last restart I got trapped behind a lapped car, which made it really hard to catch the leaders, but fourth is still an encouraging result.

"Talking to the team after the finish, they were really happy with how Marcus ran.

"The UARA Stars is a very competitive series, but he more than held his own out there, especially when he was able to tuck in behind some of the seasoned campaigners and learn off their lines.

"I really have to thank JELD-WEN for their support; we're in a position now where we have nothing to lose in going for the championship win."

The UARA Stars Series finishes the year with bang, with the penultimate round scheduled for this Saturday night at the 'world's fastest half-mile tri-oval', Concord Speedway, with the season finale set down for the high banks of the one-mile long Rockingham Speedway.

The Marcos Ambrose Motorsport Late Model team is supported by primary partner JELD-WEN, as well as Blundstone Footwear, PWR Performance, braaap USA, Miedecke Motorgroup, iSeek Communications, ONE HD, Stanley Tools, and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
