In a race filled with the usual argy-bargy and chaos, MILES Racing’s Chaz Mostert wasn’t going to be pushed around and drove with a confident and determined stance in the final Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series race to finish in seventh place at Mount Panorama this afternoon.
After starting in 11th place, Mostert in the #10 simPRO Software Falcon quickly climbed to eighth place in the opening laps before contact with Tom Tweedie at Griffins Bend ended in the race’s first Safety Car being called.
Tweedie mounted a very ambitious passing move around the outside of the obviously quicker Mostert, and it ended in tears – for him.
“I made a good start and was up into eighth and was on the back of Tom (Tweedie) who was being quite defensive and making it hard for me to get past which is understandable, but I got up the inside of him at the end of ‘Mountain Straight’ and he didn’t leave me any room and closed the door - which unfortunately ended his race,” Mostert said.
On the restart, the reigning Australian Formula Ford Champion applied the pressure to Rodney Jane for seventh position before another Safety Car was called for when Aaron McGill speared off at ‘The Chase’.
When racing resumed, Mostert continued his scrap with Jane - finally passing him on lap ten but not as easily as he would have liked - sliding off at the exit of ‘Hell Corner’ thanks to a helping hand from Jane who should have conceded to Mostert’s pass.
“I was having a good dice with Rod (Jane) and I had him going into ‘Hell Corner’ but he moved back on me which pushed me into the grass – along with himself – and he obviously was too aggressive on the throttle getting out of it and span off.”
From there Mostert set about chasing down Tim Blanchard but ran out of laps, eventually crossing the line in seventh place.
Mostert’s strong run this weekend sees him maintain his seventh place on the Series points table, with his teammate Ash Walsh who didn’t race this weekend, in 24th.
The MILES Racing simPRO Software Falcons will return to the track at Sandown International Raceway on November 18.
