Norton by Symantec, yesterday announced its sponsorship of the Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) car 18. Rising V8 Supercar star, James Moffat, will race under the new banner of Team Norton DJR in 2012 - one of four cars out of the expanded Dick Johnson Racing operation this year. Moffat, who is beginning his second season in the V8 Supercar main game, has been supported by Norton since 2010.
At a fan day held in Sydney to reveal car 18’s naming rights sponsor, Norton’s, livery for 2012, driver James Moffat, DJR mechanics and V8 fans assembled the Team Norton DJR V8 Supercar in front of a live audience in Parramatta’s Church Street Mall.
“I think the car looks really amazing and it reflects the enthusiasm that all the Norton team is feeling for the year ahead. Naming rights sponsorship has been a natural evolution, from the time Norton started sponsoring me in the Development Series a couple of years ago. I can’t thank Norton enough for their support and commitment,” said James Moffat.
“We are thrilled to announce the partnership between Norton and Dick Johnson Racing. This will be our fifth year supporting V8 Supercar racing, and it has proven to be an ideal platform to communicate the speed, safety and performance of Norton products,” said Matthew Drake, Senior Director for Pacific, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec. “Norton and V8 Supercars share many similarities - both aiming for maximum performance without sacrificing safety. Consumers want to be safe from all online threats, but safety shouldn’t be at the expense of performance. V8 Supercars sponsorship is a great way to reinforce this message to fans.”
“The Team Norton DJR sponsorship will give us a platform to further raise community awareness of internet safety issues and allow us to give our loyal customers and channel partners a more personal behind-the-scenes experience of V8 Supercars and having our own race car will give them, and us, something extra to cheer about,” he added.
Dick Johnson racing has welcomed Norton’s naming rights sponsorship, “We’re thrilled to have Norton as the naming rights sponsor for car 18,” said team boss, Dick Johnson. “They’re the leaders in the Australian market and we’re going to try our hardest to make them # 1 on the race track.”
